Bristol Avon: Avoncliff to Limpley Stoke BA2 7FL

Google Map

Avoncliff: From Warminster travel to Bradford on Avon via Westbury & Trowbridge. Go over the town centre bridge and turn left at the roundabout. Go through the bottleneck and head up the hill. As the road bears right, turn left into Newtown, bear left into Belcombe Rd. follow this until there’s a left turn to Avoncliff. There is free parking but it is limited and gets very busy. Access to the river is via the station platform and climbing the fence. Large barbel and chub have been caught from this stretch.

Limpley Stoke: From Warminster head towards Bath on the A36. At the traffic lights on the Limpley Stoke viaduct turn right towards Bradford on Avon. Follow the road under the railway bridge and over the river. There is a lay-by on the left, park here if you can, but it does get busy. If the lay-by is full there is a gate on the right just as you cross the river. We can park just inside the field to the left of the gate. The gate is secured by a padlock and chain, the chain has 2 combination locks on it, ours is the newer lock with the push button on the bottom. You can fish from the road bridge as far as you can walk up stream until you are opposite the Cross Guns at Avoncliff. This is by far one of the best stretches of the River Avon.
